RJD's Sarfaraz Alam, son of deceased MP Taslimuddin, who was trailing in initial rounds of counting, has further consolidated his lead margin in Araria Lok Sabha seat where counting of votes is still underway. After the by-election for three seats in Bihar, the preparations to elect candidates for the vacant seat has been completed in Araria.

The lead status in both Bihar assembly constituency bypoll results remain the same with BJP leading in Bhabua with 40,501 votes and RJD leading in Jehanabad with 52,609 votes.

Bhabua: Earlier, Rinki Pandey of BJP builds up the lead by 2,528 votes in Bhabua. The seat was held by the RJD when it contested in alliance with Nitish Kumars JD (U).

Gorakhpur/Patna: Counting of votes for bypolls to three Lok Sabha seats - Phulpur and Gorakpur in Uttar Pradesh and Araria in Bihar - began at 8 am on Wednesday.

Fifty-seven percent votes were recorded in Araria while the voter turnout was 54.03 percent and 50.06 percent in Jehanabad and Bhabhua respectively.

The RJD-Congress alliance is upbeat after a good voter turnout in Araria, Bhabua and Jehanabad and expressed confidence that the alliance candidates will win. Gorakhpur bypoll results 2018: In a turn of events, SP's Praveen Kumar Nishad is leading by 1523 with 44,979 votes, BJP's Upendra Dutt Shukla second with 43,456 votes.

Both the seats were won by the BJP in 2014 but Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath vacated Gorakhpur seat and deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the Phulpur seat.

There were reports of police resorting to mild use of force outside the counting centre in Jehanabad as young RJD supporters indulged in boisterous jubilations over the news of their candidate Suday Yadav establishing an unassailable lead over former MLA and JD (U) nominee Abhiram Sharma.
