A 2-year-old Colorado boy reported missing after playing outside with his older sibling has died after he was found with life-threatening injuries.

Biridiana Dominguez, the boy's sister, spoke with Denver7's Amanda del Castillo, telling her the boy "brought a lot of joy to our family".

She thanked police and volunteers who helped in the search for her brother, following the announcement of an Amber Alert.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says he was last seen near 1215 Fountain Road in Colorado Springs wearing a green sweatshirt and sweatpants.

They said the boy grabbed a gun on Saturday afternoon after his sister would not give up the controller . Another gun violence has been reported by authorities, this time, involving a minor from Mississippi .

Deputies responded to the Stratmoor Valley area around 5:40 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The alert was canceled shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday when the boy was located near the spot where he originally went missing.

He was possibly taken by an older, dark-skinned male with three other people traveling in a large white panel van wth no windows in the back.

An investigation into circumstances around the boy's disappearance continues.
