Jon Rahm wins Open De Espana

His fifth arrived at his home Spanish Open at the weekend and, afterwards, he revealed that the pressure of the "favourite" tag made it the hardest Sunday he's endured in his short professional career to date.

Rahm (23) showed he was a special talent when winning two Rolex Series events past year - the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

"I will keep doing what I am doing - get through this evening because I am a little bit disappointed - but Spain has a great champion in Jon and I am sure he will win many more of these".

"When I made the decision to come straight from Augusta it wouldn't be to just show up and walk around, I wanted to win this tournament", Rahm said.

"It's hard to describe the pride I have right now to be Spanish national champion having been a Spanish amateur champion many times with the Spanish Golf Federation, and to be able to win as a pro and do this for them and for the Spanish people, it feels great and hard to describe", he said to Sky's Andrew Coltart.

Marcus Fraser closed with an even par 72 for an 8-under total and T46, Jason Norris two shots further back after a closing 74 to be T58. "It's truly been the hardest Sunday I've ever had in any tournament that I've won because the crowd wanted it so much and I wanted it so much".

Dunne bogeyed 14 but regained the shot with a birdie on 15 before securing second on his own with a 72nd hole birdie and a 23rd birdie over the four days.

Rahm picked up a check for $308,000, while 54-hole leader Dunne took home $206,000.

Elvira soon changed that, holing a ten-footer on the 13th and a monster on the next to tie the lead and, with Dunne making a bogey on the 14th, a Spanish win was on the cards.

The three top finishers were tied for the lead on three occasions, but Rahm held his nerve to bag his third victory on the European Tour.

While he birdied the 15th to get back to within two shots of Rahm and Elvira, there were to be no late mistakes from the eventual victor.

Coetzee equalled the lowest round of the week with a 63.

Rahm birdied the last, although he didn't need it, to grab the trophy.

The Spaniard, who's now the World number four, claimed a two-shot victory after carding a closing 67 to move 20 under for the tournament.
