Mom accused of letting 2-year-old smoke meth, marijuana

At the moment, the authorities have refused to disclose any details pertaining to Ecker's motive or what will happen to her child.

A child abuse investigation was first launched in January, when Wakulla County Sheriff's Office detectives looked into allegations that Ecker had involved the child in meth and marijuana use at her home. A few witnesses came forward and told detectives that the child had smoked pot with Kaitlyn Ecker, who allegedly joked that the child knew how to roll joints. Kaitlyn Ecker apparently did the drug herself, too. This led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies searched her Crawfordville home on January 19 and found pipes with marijuana and meth residue, grinders, a scale and a baggie of marijuana in a basket of children's toys.

During the search, detectives found meth residue inside two glass pipes.

The laundry room cabinet at the YMCA Learning Center in Missoula, Mont., had been outfitted with a battery-powered light, makeshift curtains, shelves, an air filter, eye hooks to lock the doors from the inside - and a small glitter case containing snort tubes, lighters, a glass pipe and a vial of methamphetamine, police say.

The report found that the toddler tested positive for "chronic" use of both methamphetamine and amphetamine. Moreover, she admitted to consuming pot the night before her interrogation and smoking meth months before her arrest.

Heinz was arrested and faces charges of child endangerment, criminal possession of drugs and criminal mischief. Investigators said she also denied "ever smoking or ingesting drugs in the presence of the 2-year-old and denied any knowledge of the child being exposed to drugs".

Police said the mother admitted to smoking both drugs, but denied doing so in front of her child. Not only that, but authorities executed a search warrant for a hair sample and blood sample from the woman, as well as the child.

Heinz told police she had refitted the cabinet as a place to "get away" during breaks but asked for an attorney when questioned about drugs, reported KULR.

She was charged at the time with misdemeanor marijuana possession and possession of paraphernalia.

It's unclear if Ecker has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf at this time.
