Defeat for the Red Devils meant Man City were crowned the Premier League champions.

This is Mourinho's second season at Old Trafford and he insisted that his impressive managerial record - at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid - shouldn't be forgotten.

Guardiola is the first Spanish manager to win the Premier League, while City also tied United's record by winning the competition with five games to spare.

United had denied City the chance to wrap up the title last weekend when they came from two goals down to beat their bitter rivals 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Jose Mourinho said: "It was a bad reaction after the City victory, the effect of that is complicated football". We always gave them the opportunity to be solid, compact in the low block with strong physical players.

West Brom is still nine points from safety and looks destined for relegation.

Here's what pundits, managers and players have said after City won the league...

Jose Mourinho's men should have had a first-half penalty after Craig Dawson caught Ander Herrera, but complacency seeped in and the Baggies showed fight under caretaker boss Darren Moore that has been sorely lacking this season.

And of course their away form in the Premier League is increasingly worrying, having lost their last five on their travels. Newcastle possible XI: Dubravka, Yedlin, Lejeune, Lascelles, Dummett , Ritchie, Diame, Shelvey, Kenedy , Perez, Gayle.

"This one differs in that we were consistent the whole season and we were able to play at the level we're expected to perform at".

Paul Pogba's two goals against City felt like a defining moment for the France midfielder during a season which has had more downs than ups.

"We played against a really formidable team today", Moore told the BBC.

City subsequently join the United team of 2000/01 in becoming the only Premier League club to win the title with five matches remaining.

"I'm buzzing, over the moon, so happy".

Former England global Gary Lineker, who now work as a television presenter, tweeted: "Congratulations to @ManCity on winning the Premier League title". I was unfortunate enough to play against that quality United side that dominated in the '90s, but this side would have beaten them - that's how good they are. Basically we didn't do our job today which was winning.

"Premier League Champions 17/18", City tweeted soon after the final whistle, when the fifth English top-flight title of its history was assured.
