IDF reveals technology behind discovery of Hamas terror tunnels

The tunnel, which was constructed by Hamas after the Gaza War in 2014, was "ready for use", the IDF spokesman said.

The Israeli Army on Sunday claimed to have discovered and destroyed a tunnel allegedly extending tens of metres into Israel from Gaza and that belonged to the Islamist movement Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip.

The tunnel came from the area of Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip and was being dug in the direction of the Nahal Oz community in Israel, he said.

Conricus said Israel had been monitoring the construction of the tunnel for some time.

Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said that Israel is now the "world leader" in defending borders. "The Hamas terror organization continues to invest significant resources into its futile terror activities instead of investing in the well-being of its own people", he also said. It stretched about 65 feet into Israel. On the Gazan side, the tunnel connected to a chain of other tunnels, and its destruction could therefore be considered a significant operational achievement.

International Monetary Fund expects India's economy to grow at 7.4% in 2018
The IMF also said the country's economy could grow by 2.9 percent in 2019, the same expansion as forecast earlier. It also upgraded its forecast for USA growth in 2018 to 2.9%, up from 2.7% previously.

He also tweeted: "Millions of dollars were invested in its excavation, money that would have been better served mitigating the plight of residents but has now sunk into the sand".

Senior Hamas political leader Atef Adwan told the news agency: "Hamas' leadership did not receive any official or unofficial proposals from any European Union countries about running the Gaza Strip in return for a limited truce". "We will get to them all".

It is the fifth such detection in as many months and Israeli officials regard publicity around their tunnel hunts as a double-edged sword.

Some military sources hypothesized that the recent Hamas-led riots in the area were orchestrated to divert attention from the tunnels, reflecting the terror group's complete military and political control of Gaza.
