Reuben Foster sidelined for San Francisco 49ers' offseason program

According to local prosecutors, Foster's 28-year-old girlfriend had to flag down a passing vehicle after he threw her out of his Los Gatos house.

Per the release, the alleged victim flagged down a stranger's vehicle following an altercation with Foster in which he physically threw her out of their home, pulled her hair and punched her in the head eight to 10 times.

Last week, Foster was charged with felony domestic violence against his live-in girlfriend.

Foster was a first-round draft pick last April out of Alabama, and although injuries hindered the start of his rookie season, he did win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month in December and finished as the team's second-leading tackler.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster won't participate in the offseason program while he tends to legal matters related to his domestic violence charges. "As previously stated, his future with the team will be determined by the information revealed during the legal process", the team announced in a statement.

The decision does not affect felony charges of domestic violence, forcefully attempting to dissuade a witness, and possession of an assault weapon - the latter in connection with a Sig Sauer 516 short-barreled rifle authorities seized from his home.

The major storm is winding down for this Monday
They will pick back up on Friday and into the weekend ahead of yet another upper-level low that will move into the Rockies. A cold front may sweep through on Friday or Friday night which could generate a few showers at that time.

In a statement Thursday after the charges were filed, the 49ers did not mention any intention to cut Foster.

Those charges were the result of a February 11 disturbance call to a residence in Los Gatos. Foster is free on $75,000 bail.

The offseason program is the de facto start of the new season for players.

National Football League offseason programs are voluntary and divided into three phases, starting with a two-week session limited to strength and conditioning.

"Look, we hate it very much when any player that we had here, who did a great job for us here at Alabama - great job - in terms of how he represented the university, how he represented our program, the contribution that he made to our program, and, obviously, we have a player that you'll probably ask me about that has legal issues - Reuben Foster", Saban told reporters.

The NFL has said it is looking into possible discipline for Foster for both infractions. In a statement, the 49ers organizations said: "We will continue to follow this serious matter". This Office has been advised that a judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego has issued an injunction prohibiting enforcement of the misdemeanor ammunition charge, pending review by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
