U.S. imposes travel restrictions on Pakistani diplomats

According to the warning sent by the State Department, the Pakistani diplomatic staff would need permission at least five days ahead from USA authorities if they need to travel outside of the imposed 25 miles radius. Pakistan's Ambassador to the US, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry confirmed to The News that the travel restrictions cover two-tier officials station in the US bearing visa categories of A1, and A2 and also the members of their families including children. The US government has sent an official notice in this regard to the Pakistani embassy.

Under the Trump administration's decision, the officials of the Pakistan Embassy and four consulates are required to get permission from the State Department five days before going beyond the set limits.

US authorities have complained that Pakistan's government has imposed travel restrictions on their diplomats.

In April 2018, the U.S. administration revealed that the USA would impose restrictions on Pakistan if the Pakistani government will not provide the United States diplomats ease in travel.

Earlier, it was reported that the American lawmakers had reminded the Trump administration that imposing restrictions "was not a smart thing to do".

Addressing a meeting of the Pakistani American Congress on Capitol Hill, a Congressman, Donald Norcros, called for dialogue to ease tension, adding, "And if (by imposing those restrictions) we are inhibiting conversation, I do not think that's a smart thing to do".

A frustrated President Donald Trump issued a New Year's Day tweet, saying the US had given Pakistan more than $33 billion in aid and gotten nothing but "lies and deceit" in return. "The mechanism could not mature, according to which a point officer from each sides were to work closely to address any complaints". "We share the same objectives".
