A dozen East coast beaches get prestigious Blue Flags

Sandhaven Beach has achieved the Blue Flag status and secured the Seaside Award for the twelfth year running, from leading environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy.

Shanklin joins the country's very best beaches, from popular holiday destinations to quiet, more hidden-away spots. The status gives local people and visitors the confidence to know that our beaches are well maintained.

Seaton Carew is one of eight beaches in the region have also received the Seaside Award, with Sandhaven Beach in South Shields, Roker and Seaburn beaches in Sunderland, and Tynemouth Longsands, King Edwards Bay, Whitley Bay, and Cullercoats, all North Tyneside, also achieving the accolade.

"Special thanks must go to our beach cleaning teams, national and community beach cleaning volunteer groups, the dedicated Seafront Office and Beach Lifeguard Team and our partners at Southern Water who are always looking at methods and measures to improve the water quality along our coastline".

The annual event to announce which beaches in Britain had won the Blue Flags was this year held on the north Norfolk coast in Cromer.

Oil Rises to New Three-Year Highs
If the political prospects improve in countries like Venezuela, Libya, South Sudan, and Iran, prices will fall even lower. U.S. crude inventories C-STK-T-EIA dropped by 1.4 million barrels in the week to May 11, to 432.34 million barrels.

"Keep Britain Tidy leads the fight to create clean, plastic-free beaches".

What unites them all is knowing that they are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough global bathing water quality standards.

The Blue Flag award is administered in Canada by Environmental Defence, and is managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

"Our research shows that almost two thirds (65%) of parents would prefer to visit beaches with Blue Flag or Seaside Award status, so growing the number of beaches with an award is vital to encourage more families to visit our attractive coastline". "Hopefully next year we'll see an even greater number joining us as we drive up standards across the board".
