Female Kent State Graduate Carries AR-10 on Campus

Bennett sent out a follow-up tweet to clarify she was holding an AR-10 rifle, not an "assault rifle", after many lashed out at her.

Those students were killed when guardsmen fired during a mass protest at the school's campus against the US bombing of Cambodia.

The caption on the photo read, "Now that I graduated from @KentState, I can finally arm myself on campus". "As a lady, I refuse to be a sufferer & the second modification ensures that I haven't got to be".

She waited until graduation was over to post the photo because of school regulations that has a policy barring students and staff from carrying guns on campus.

Kaitlin Bennett, 22, posed in front of the Kent Student Center to draw attention to the "insulting" gun policies on campus that allow guests to open carry, but not students. The school prohibits students, faculty, and staff from carrying "deadly weapons".

The day after commencement, Bennett strapped on an AR-10 on her back to prove a point.

Her post has been liked and shared hundreds and thousands of times and has drawn praise or criticism, depending on which side you fall on gun control.

However Kent State College spokesman Eric Mansfield advised Fox Information that as a result of Bennett is not a scholar, she violated no insurance policies.

Bennett, who was raised by a Republican family in Zanesville, Ohio, knew her photo would provoke backlash.

Bennett said she had been planning the photo shoot with the "family" firearm for weeks leading up to graduation.

But campus police can't always intervene fast enough, Bennett said, arguing that "pulling out a gun is easier than dialing 911".

"I carry, so I'm not nervous", said Bennett. "So at the time of this photo, she and other graduates would be permitted to open carry on our campus".

State University was recently ranked the safest big college campus in OH and 25th safest in the country, according to the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

"The university has a full-time, certified police force of more than 30 sworn officers who protect the campus", Mansfield added.

Bennett's Twitter page shows the woman as an avid supporter of President Trump, whom she often commends and supports via her profile.

The past few days have been trying, but Bennett plans on standing her ground and exercising her 2nd amendment right.
