Venezuela Political Prisoners Riot as National Guard & Police Surround Nefarious Prison

Joshua Holt is pleading for Americans' help getting out of a Caracas jail.

In a video posted on the page on Wednesday, Holt said his life is in danger.

The 26-year-old Holt traveled to Venezuela in 2016 to marry a fellow Mormon he met on the web. The couple settled into the apartment in Caracas where Holt's new bride lived with her daughters while they awaited US visas, according to NBC News.

Authorities of Venezuela claim that Holt was working with the US government to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro, a plan they say involved him and his wife stockpiling weapons. He moved in with her in the outskirts of Caracas while they waited for her visa to arrive so they could move to the USA with her two daughters, NPR reported previous year after speaking to Holt's mother. Venezuelans will be voting for a new president on Sunday.

"I need help. They have taken the entire prison where I am at", he can be heard saying in the first video.

They say they did so after a political prisoner was beaten. I am a political prisoner and they won't let me free.

In the cellphone video, Holt said he's begged the US government for help.

In a midafternoon Facebook post, Joshua Holt, a US citizen and missionary whose family has said he was framed on weapons charges while in Venezuela for his wedding, said, "Helicoide the prison where I am at has fallen the guards are here and people are trying to break in my room and kill me". Local and social media, as well as one witness interviewed by LAHT, report tear gas and buckshot being deployed inside “El Helicoide”.

Later, socialist party leader Diosdado Cabello accused the inmates of staging the revolt to spread intrigue ahead of the election.

His trial on weapons charges was scheduled to start on Tuesday but Mr Holt and his wife, Thamara Caleno, were not taken to the court house by their jailers at El Helicoide, headquarters to Venezuela's feared Sebin intelligence police.

Tensions between the USA and Venezuela have risen as President Donald Trump's administration considers oil sanctions on the country ahead of Venezuela's presidential election Sunday.

The Trump administration has warned that it could put crippling oil sanctions on Venezuela if Maduro goes ahead with what the USA and others consider a sham presidential election Sunday.

Rights groups and Maduro opponents have said several hundred political prisoners have been unfairly jailed.

Responding to Holt's appeal, one Venezuelan official, Humberto Gonzalez, warned in a Tweet: "ALERT If the United States does not promptly rescue Joshua Holt he could be lynched by Maduro's regime agents on next hours". But he left shortly after nightfall with no answers, saying he was unable to meet with the foreign minister and other officials, including Maduro, either didn't take the embassy's calls or claimed not to have any knowledge about the case. "We're very anxious about the riot in El Helicoide".

"Joshua Holt and other USA citizens are in danger". The embassy tweeted that Venezuela's government is responsible for the safety of prisoners and will be held accountable if something happens.

Members of Utah's congressional delegation also were working for his release.
