"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a Baltimore County Police Officer after she was shot in the line of duty today", Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted following early reports of the incident.

Ten officers have died in the line of duty in Baltimore County, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. Harris was expected to appear in court for a bail review later on Tuesday.

Police tweeted that residents in the area of Belair and Klausmeier roads should shelter in place as officers search for an armed suspect. Police said Monday evening that they had recovered a Jeep believed to be connected to the incident.

A Baltimore County, Maryland police officer was killed Monday following an altercation with suspects still on the loose.

Kurek said his other son, Logan Kurek, who is a volunteer firefighter, performed CPR on the officer and they called 911.

Court records say the teen arrested after a female Maryland police officer was fatally injured told a detective he drove a Jeep toward the officer. "We continue to keep Officer Caprio's family, loved ones, her brothers and sisters in blue, and the entire Baltimore County community in our prayers".

"She was just doing her job", Vinson said. The officer was responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle in the unit-block of Linwen Way.

She was transported to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center but did not survive, according to CBS.

Police said at the time that her investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects in numerous package thefts in eastern Baltimore County and neighboring jurisdictions.

Heavily armed officers with a trained canine also could be seen in helicopter news footage as they scrambled across neatly manicured backyards.

Events began unfolding Monday afternoon in the leafy neighborhood of single-family homes. Kurek said the Jeep ran over the officer.

"I heard, 'Get out of the car!' 'Get out of the car!' Get out of the car!' at least three times, and then a pop", Amendt said. It's a quiet community. "You could just tell it wasn't good", Kurek said.

The suspects, considered armed and unsafe, were still at large Monday evening and police were combing the Baltimore suburb of Perry Hall, where three elementary schools were under lockdown, said Baltimore County Police Chief Terrence Sheridan. By Monday evening, parents were allowed to come to the schools to pick up their youngsters.
