Jared Kushner's security clearance has been restored

But the process still raised questions about whether the FBI had held off on issuing the permanent clearance because of special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russian Federation probe MORE's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Kushner's permanent clearance was granted after career officials completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation background check process, according to the person familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The wealthy NY real estate developer had to refile the national security questionnaire required of all prospective White House employees after making a number of omissions. "Having accomplished these processes, Mr. Kushner is trying ahead to persevering with the work the President has requested him to do".

Kushner had been working under an interim clearance, but it was revoked in February during procedural changes in the White House.

His temporary clearance was suspended by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly in February along with other officials operating under temporary clearances as part of measures to tighten procedures after White House staff secretary Rob Porter was sacked when his two ex-wives raised charges of domestic abuse. His first interview in the probe of Russian meddling in the 2016 election occurred last fall.

The Kushner team believes he is now finished with all ongoing inquiries, which also include the investigations by congressional committees, according to a person close to Kushner.

Some Texas officials responded to Friday's shooting with calls for prayers and blamed abortion and violent video games. Students at Santa Fe High School had different opinions on whether the alleged shooter was a normal, friendly kid.

The White House has sought to portray the FBI's plodding pace as an ordinary situation endemic to any new government official with longstanding financial entanglements. Brookfield Asset Management, a Canadian real estate firm, said this month that it had reached an agreement to invest in the property.

"As I told Jared days ago, I have full confidence in his ability to continue performing his duties in his foreign policy portfolio including overseeing our Israeli-Palestinian peace effort and serving as an integral part of our relationship with Mexico", Kelly said in a statement.

Mark Zaid, a national security lawyer, said people who lose their interim security clearances are often able to get them restored after a fuller investigation of the issues that caused concern for security officers. That means Kushner once again has access to the nation's most sensitive information.

The person familiar with the matter confirmed that Kushner was granted a top-secret clearance. Others to speak with the special counsel included former chief strategist Steve Bannon, White House senior adviser Stephen Miller and former White House communications director Hope Hicks. But The Washington Post reported that he had secured a permanent clearance.

When Trump took office previous year, Kushner was granted interim clearance which allowed him to handle classified information while his background check was ongoing.

Kushner's application had been beset by multiple revisions and previously undisclosed contacts with foreign individuals.
