Argentina's Lanzini out of World Cup with ruptured ACL

The West Ham United forward ruptured his cruciate knee ligament in training on Friday, Argentina confirmed on their official Twitter page.

Despite having just four caps, Lanzini had fully cemented himself into Jorge Sampaoli's plans and was set to start in Albiceleste's opening game against Iceland in Russian Federation.

However, any chance of a summer swoop for the Argentinian have been wiped out after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee whilst on worldwide duty with Argentina. Argentina have been training in Barcelona, home to forward Lionel Messi, before travelling to Russian Federation.

President Trump says he may pardon late boxing champion Muhammad Ali
Earlier this week, Trump commuted the life sentence of a woman whose cause was championed by Kim Kardashian West. Mr Trump's comments follow his pardon of conservative political commentator and author Dinesh D'Souza .

The 25-year-old had fought his way into the defeated 2014 finalists' World Cup squad since making his debut as a substitute against Brazil in June 2017, Jorge Sampoli's first game in charge. Lanzini, who battled a persistent knee injury towards the end of the Premier League season, started Argentina's 4-0 friendly win against Haiti at the end of May.

Argentina star Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of the World Cup with a serious knee injury. Icardi topped the Serie A goalscoring charts for 2017/18 season scoring 29 goals in 34 appearances.
