A new report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has shown that suicide rates are rising in almost every state. Of the 25 states where the suicide rate increase by more than 30 percent, the most noticeable rises occurred in western states.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the country, according to the report. "Suicide is a public health crisis when you look at the numbers, and they keep going up". In less than a decade the rate of suicides in OH has gone up 36 percent meaning an average of about 5 people a day now die from suicide in Ohio. Variation in suicide rates within the US supports this conclusion. Only Nevada did not record a rise.

A new report from the Centers for Disease Control shows the suicide rate grew 20 percent faster in Kansas than the national average. In New Orleans, researchers led by Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse also recently studied the high rates of suicide in the city even a decade after Hurricane Katrina.
