New Jersey State Trooper stops retired officer who delivered him

A New Jersey trooper made the traffic stop of a lifetime last Friday when he pulled over the retired police officer who delivered him almost three decades ago.

State Police Trooper Michael Patterson pulled Matthew Bailly over in Kingwood Township for a minor motor vehicle violation.

Bailly told Patterson that he was a retired Piscataway police officer. When Patterson answered, the retired cop told him he was familiar with it. Bailly recalled a curious memory of when he was a rookie cop and delivered a baby there 27 years ago.

Patterson then extended his hand, said "I'm Michael Patterson, thanks for delivering me". "Thank you for delivering me", he said. Karen Patterson had gone into labor while shopping, according to the NJSP Facebook post, and rushed home to her husband, Bobby Patterson.

Awestruck with the reunion, Patterson and his mother Karen later visited Bailly and his wife to reminisce the miracle delivery and their fateful reunion.

Other commenters wondered if Patterson had given Bailly a ticket for the vehicle violation. Mr. Bailly had four years on the job when he responded to a home on Poe Place in Piscataway.

"We connected at that point", Patterson said at the press conference.

Bailly, who responded to the emergency call, was able to deliver Patterson with the aid of a doctor, who was on the phone.

The two took a photo together at the scene of the traffic stop. When she got home it was too late to get to the hospital.

Both pictures, along with the story, were posted on Facebook by the New Jersey State Police.

"We're not sure what the odds are of this happening-maybe they're close to the odds of a hole-in-one, winning the lottery, or being struck by lightning-but it happened", New Jersey State Police wrote on Facebook. Instead of giving him a ticket for his tinted windows, Patterson advised him to change the glass, according to the BBC. But what are the chances that you'll pull over the guy who helped give you life?
