Farrah Fawcett's son Redmond O'Neal charged with attempted murder

The son of actors Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett is in custody again, this time accused of a violent crime spree in Southern California.

O'Neal faced off against two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of criminal threats, one count of attempted murder, and one count of brandishing a knife, as well as another count of battery.

Prior to O'Neal's arrest, a crime spree had wreaked havoc on that area of West L.A., with five men being randomly attacked, according to LAPD. On May 4, police say O'Neal stabbed a man near the Venice Beach Boardwalk, and then hours later another man was found lying in a pool of blood, stabbed in the face and upper body. The police also charged him with possession of drugs including the possession of a smoking device. Redmond James O'Neal was arrested on May 8 for an armed robbery after he was identified as the suspect in a 7-Eleven store robbery. He matched witnesses' descriptions and security footage of a red-headed male with distinct facial tattoos.

In the final incident that police attribute to Redmond, he allegedly became belligerent inside a coffee shop and when an employee intervened, police say Redmond pulled out a folding knife and "lunged, jabbed and threatened to harm the employee with the knife".

O'Neal has pleaded not guilty to all charges in the May 8 robbery.

Authorities have not released a motive and said the crimes seem random, but it may have started as an argument between unknown people.

The troubled son of actors Ryan O'Neal and Farrah Fawcett has been charged with attempted murder.

Fawcett was 62 when she died of anal cancer on June 25, 2009, the same day Michael Jackson died. He's been arrested multiple times for drug possession, including in 2008 and 2011.

In 2015, his half sister, Oscar-winning actress Tatum O'Neal, told People magazine that Redmond's drug addiction was spiraling out of control and that she had urged him to go to 12-step meetings with her.

He was sentenced to three years, but was released serving out that sentence.
