Trump says that Russian Federation should be reinstated as a G8 member

Trudeau heaped scorn on Donald Trump's national security justification for the new metal tariffs.

Mr. Trump's tweets followed a press conference by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said that Canada would be going through with retaliatory tariffs given the U.S.'s insistence on steel and aluminum imports.

The tension was due to his call to reinstate Russian Federation into the G7 again and trade policy.

"Prime Minister Trudeau is being so indignant, bringing up the relationship that the USA and Canada had over the many years and all sorts of other things.but he doesn't bring up the fact that they charge us up to 300 percent on dairy - hurting our Farmers, killing our Agriculture!"

In retrospect, the consensus had appeared shaky from the outset, and even as Trump flew out it was clear that the summit had failed to heal the rift on trade. Trudeau said he "accepted" the long USA explanation in the statement about how Washington did not back the Paris agreement.

Trump criticized the Canadian prime minister for acting "meek and mild" during their G-7 meetings, accusing him of changing his tone after Trump departed for a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

Trump added: "Very dishonest & weak".

"I look forward to seeing them tomorrow", Trump wrote about Friday's start of the two-day summit.

Investors are also concerned about the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has threatened to terminate.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has pushed for increased federal enforcement in states that have legalized marijuana . A new bill introduced in Congress on Thursday could change that - all without federally legalizing marijuana.

On Friday, European Council President Donald Tusk said Trump's criticism of the worldwide rules-based order is "playing into the hands of those who seek a new post-West order where liberal democracy and fundamental freedoms would cease to exist".

French President Emmanuel Macron, whose country will host next year's summit in Biarritz, said work would continue.

"The prime minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversations with the president".

Speaking today during a rare news conference, Trump said he pressed for the G-7 countries to eliminate all tariffs, trade barriers and subsidies in their trading practices. Some world leaders lamented that the president was needlessly starting a trade war between Western countries that would only ultimately hurt workers and raising tensions between economically close allies. "I don't blame other leaders for that, I blame our past leaders".

He hit out at the European Union and Canada for imposing tariffs on U.S. goods, which were imposed in response to United States tariffs on their exports.

"The rhetoric has far outpaced the implementation", said Geoffrey Gertz, trade analyst with Brookings think tank in Washington. The United States pays enormous tariffs on dairy.

Fears of a looming trade war were heightened last week after all the G7 nations announced plans to retaliate against Trump's tariffs with tariffs of their own.

Officials from European delegations quickly leaked copies of the joint statement to AFP, and it was published publicly online before Trump tweeted. They have recovered somewhat, but are still vulnerable and Italy's new government is also a risk. "I think it will be very positive", Trump said on Friday, without giving details.
