Eid exodus: Asia's Muslims on the move for end of Ramazan

The month of Ramazan plays key importance in the Islamic calendar as it is the month that Allah presented Prophet Mohammad with the first verses of Quran and the gates of heaven are said to be open in this month.

The Shawwal moon-sighting committee will gather today.


The beginning of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE will be announced tonight after the moon-sighting committee convenes at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi Al Dhaheri, Minister of Justice issued the resolution for the moon-sighting committee.

Fury wins on boxing comeback

Eid al-Fitr lasts three days and is also known as the "Breaking of the fast" following Ramadan. It's Meethi Eid and its celebrations are characterised by getting together of family and friends, exchange of gifts and communal feasting on meat delicacies as well as deleectable desserts, which make an important part of the festival. The prayers are always performed in a group and involve particular rituals and a sermon unique to other prayers practised by Muslims.
