G7 leaders agree to joint communique: Trudeau

MPs of all political stripes unanimously adopted a motion to that effect proposed by New Democrat MP Tracey Ramsey even as Trump continued to rail against what he described as unfair trade policies of Canada and other traditional USA allies.

Trudeau himself was nowhere to be seen Monday, taking a break after hosting the tense, three-day summit, to which Trump arrived late, left early and then upended with a Twitter tirade from Air Force One.

Trudeau says five of the G7 countries agreed to a plastics charter to further protect the environment and oceans.

Canada's House of Commons has unanimously condemned personal attacks on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by US President Donald Trump and his aides as the famously polite nation simmered over the weekend broadsides by its US ally.

The United States is now fighting with Canada on trade, and some comments from White House officials have been, well, less helpful than others.

And in Ottawa on Monday, International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne urged lawmakers to speed ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership that might offset losses in U.S. trade by binding Canada closer to Asia, Australia and Latin America.

Trump advisers described Trudeau's statements as a slight that threatened to make the USA look weak right as the president was leaving for a summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

But Trudeau pointed to firm commitments from some members of the G7 to promote cleaner oceans and fund better access to education for girls in poor countries. "He'll learn, he can't do that", Trump said.

We have very little use for Trudeau, that avatar of chic progressivism, or for Trump's other foil, Angela Merkel, the very embodiment of the short-sighted and high-handed European establishment.

Trump eyes oil prices: ‘OPEC is at it again’
After landing Wednesday morning, Trump fired off tweets on various subjects, including the summit. That move took crude from about $50 a barrel in late 2016 to more than $70 this year.

Trudeau used a media conference on Saturday to reject a United States demand for a sunset clause in the North American trade agreement, Nafta, that Trump has at different times pressed to abolish or renegotiate. He had other things, bigger things on his plate in Singapore, he said.

During an appearance on "Newsmax Now", Reagan addressed Navarro's comment in which he said, "There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door", referencing Trudeau.

He told Fox News Mr. Trump "did the courtesy to Justin Trudeau to travel up to Quebec for that summit". They accused Trudeau of betraying Trump and stabbing him in the back.

The Americans' criticism of Trudeau left a former Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, stumped.

Canada's Freeland, who met with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on Friday, said she would speak to him later on Sunday, adding that she believes a deal to renew the North American Free Trade Agreement is still possible.

Trump has infuriated the European Union, Canada and Mexico by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

European officials suggested that the upbeat, punchy news conference that Trump delivered before skipping out was aimed at his trade-skeptic supporters back home and did not reflect the results of the summit.

"Let me correct a mistake I made", Navarro said at a Wall Street Journal conference Tuesday, according to video provided by the newspaper's CFO Network.
