Trump Kim summit: USA president lauds deal despite scepticism

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he "could hardly sleep last night" for anticipation over the historic summit between President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un. A North Korean aide wearing latex gloves reportedly inspected and wiped the pen intended for Kim, which he didn't end up using.

President Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un are signing a joint agreement, although the exact details are still unknown. Despite those efforts, Trump announced after the summit that he had agreed to suspend US military drills with South Korea, something North Korea has long demanded.

FILE PHOTO: People watch from a shopping mall food court in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Koreatown as Singapore hosted a summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in Los Angeles, California, U.S., June 11, 2018.

In their joint statement Kim agreed to the "complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula" a stock phrase favoured by Pyongyang that stopped short of longstanding U.S. demands for North Korea to give up its atomic arsenal in a "verifiable" and "irreversible" way.

"I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people", Trump said at a press conference in Canada before departing the G-7 summit for Singapore.

It was not immediately clear what specific progress, if any, had been made in preliminary discussions between U.S. and North Korean officials. But the North has long sought an end to the United States military presence in the South, where Washington has around 28,000 troops stationed to protect it from its neighbour.

The video was created by the White House's National Security Council to "help the president demonstrate the benefits of complete denuclearisation, and a vision of a peaceful and prosperous Korean Peninsula", White House spokesman Garrett Marquis said.

KCNA said the USA president expressed his intention to offer security guarantees to North Korea and lift sanctions "over a period of good-will dialogue" between the two countries. The latest example concerns North Korea.

KCNA also asserted Trump had "expressed his intention" to lift sanctions against the North something the USA president had told a blockbuster press conference would happen "when we are sure that the nukes are no longer a factor".

USA, Canada and Mexico to host football World Cup 2026
The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held - with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days. England, like Morocco, knows the feeling of falling short in the bid to host the World Cup.

In the United States, supporters of President Trump welcomed the outcomes of the summit as a historic breakthrough.

But it is important to note that Trump's rationale was to scrap the war games, not because they offend and worry the DPRK - but, as he himself stated to the media, because they cost a lot of money.

Best case scenario is the two sides start talking, North Korea decides the U.S.is no longer a threat and scales back its arsenal.

The news agency said that Kim invited Trump to visit Pyongyang "at a convenient time" and that Trump also invited Kim to visit the US. And why wasn't the South Korean president invited? North Korea and South Korea have the most riding on a peace deal, but China, which is next door, is probably next in line.

Both Seoul and USA military commanders in the South indicated they had no idea the announcement was coming.

Most of us realize that the hysterical anti-Trump resistance has difficulty keeping its talking points straight.

-South Korea military exercises could be put back on if talks with Pyongyang do not progress.

Pompeo, speaking to reporters in Seoul on Wednesday, sought to quell criticism that North Korea didn't make any major commitments at the summit in Singapore.

Mr Kim arrived in town on Sunday for a historic summit on Tuesday with US President Donald Trump to discuss possible denuclearisation efforts.
