The Spurs Reportedly Won’t Trade Kawhi Leonard Until This Happens

In a flawless storm of free agency drama, the Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James superteam rumors have begun. She reported further regarding the Lakers and Clippers both being concerned about Leonard's right quad injury, which limited him to nine games this past season and is the root of his frayed relationship with the Spurs. The Cavaliers have struggled to build a team around James that can take on the Warriors, having been dominated in the NBA Finals for two straight years.

The NBA world went insane when the news came out that Kawhi Leonard has requested a trade from the San Antonio Spurs. A report surfaced over the weekend that said Phoenix would explore the possibility of trading the pick if they were blown away by an offer. Chris Sheridan has reported for GetMetSports.com that the Spurs won't trade Leonard to a Western Conference team, and others have speculated just as much. The Lakers have Luol Deng under contract for two more seasons (at about $17.2 million for the just-completed season, and $18 million for next), but it is unlikely the Spurs would have any interest. In that scenario, assuming James and George signed as free agents, Los Angeles would only have them, Leonard, and Deng under contract.

"And wouldn't you know, there are the Lakers, semi-functional for the first time in years, with the assets to piece together an interesting trade package".

Harris and one of their first-round picks on Thursday night would be a starting point for the Clippers in any trade talks involving Leonard.

"San Antonio is not into media frenzy". But they aren't going to let Leonard dictate his trade destination. They can also make the pick, sign the player and then wait 30 days and send him to a new team - similar to how they acquired Kevin Love from the Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins.
