Blood Moon 2018: Longest Total Lunar Eclipse of Century Occurs July 27

The fears hinge around a line in the Book of Joel 2:30-31 that says: 'And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke'.

It'll last for more than an hour seen from the UK.

The blood moon eclipse should last a whopping one hour and 43 minutes.

Meanwhile, the January 31 sighting of a Super Blue Blood Moon and a total lunar eclipse occurred in India for the first time after 1982.

The moon will be partially eclipsed for roughly an hour before and after the main event.

The moon rises above lower Manhattan and One World Trade Center in New York City on June 10, 2017, as seen from West Orange, NJ.

Here's what you need to know as the full moon and Saturn get ready to put on a dazzling display this week.

The eclipse will be the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century.

Ferrari traditionally underplay their hand on Friday, and Kimi Raikkonen and Vettel finished fourth and fifth respectively. The latter time was a considerable 0.704 faster than Red Bull's Australian Daniel Ricciardo, the best of the rest.

It happens because of the sunlight that passes through the Earth's atmosphere. Therefore, only red light, having the longest wavelength in the visible spectrum, travels to the Moon, and results in the Moon appearing blood red. The greatest eclipse will occur at 8.22 p.m. UTC (4.22 p.m. ET), EarthSky reported.

The partial eclipse, meanwhile, which comes either side of the main event, will last nearly four hours.

The blood moon lunar eclipse will be visible across much of Europe and Asia, as well as Australia and parts of North and South America, on the night of July 27 and early morning of July 28. It will take nearly four hours for it to cross the Earth's dark umbral shadow.

Also, on the night of December 3, 2017, the Earth saw the first of three "supermoons", which appeared quite like the January 1 supermoon.

Why Is This Particular Lunar Eclipse So Long?

"What controls the duration of the lunar eclipse is the position of the moon as it passes through the Earth's shadow", Petro told Space.com.

Additionally, the moon will be at a farther point from Earth along its orbit, EarthSky pointed out.

The July 27 blood moon is expected to last beyond 100 minutes, and is expected to cast a larger shadow over the Earth than previously recorded moons.
