Ant-Man And The Wasp US box office down on expectations

Another band of Spandexed protagonists are enjoying box office success. Ant-Man and the Wasp had a worldwide opening of $161 million, including $85 million internationally this weekend.

The flick opened Thursday with $11.5 million - almost double that of the first movie - but its Friday, Saturday and Sunday numbers didn't hold as high, which basically means a lot of the hard core fans went to see it Thursday night.

That is a robust 33% jump from the debut of the original "Ant-Man", which opened to $57 million and went on to collect $180 million at the domestic box office in July 2015.

Ant-Man and the Wasp had a reported budget of $150 million and marketing costs are believed to be around $100 million, The movie needs about $500 million to cover expenses with everything above that being a bonus.

Including the debut weekend of Ant-Man and The Wasp, Marvel Studios has officially grossed over $17 billion worldwide in the span of 20 films.

Parents say they haven't been told which boys were taken out of the cave, and have not been allowed to visit them in hospital. As of this writing, four of the boys have already been rescued but operations have been put on hold to restock on supplies.

Superheroes continue to dominate the summer box office.

The film - starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly - earned $76 million at the box office this weekend, earning a first place spot. In the last two years Marvel has released six films, and all of them have managed to make at least $850 million globally, with two of them making over $1 billion. Warner Bros.' Tag took 8th place this week with $3.1 million, while the Mister Rogers documentary Won't You be my Neighbor brought in an impressive $2.5 million, which is almost 7 percent higher than last weekend. CinemaScore gave Ant-Man and the Wasp an A- and Rotten Tomatoes now has the movie at an 86 percent Fresh Rating. The studio has had a string of box office hits in 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War racking up over US$2 billion and counting, and Black Panther passing US$1.3 billion globally. In four weeks, the blockbuster has earned $772.2 million worldwide. The Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin-led sequel picked up another $7.6 million, taking the domestic tally to $35 million. Solo made just under $1 million domestically, bringing its domestic box office total to $211 million.

Disney and Pixar's Incredibles 2 held tight to the 2nd spot, bringing in over $29 million, which brings the totals to $500 million domestically and $700 million worldwide.

Avengers: Infinity War dropped from twelfth place to fifteen place at the United States box office.
