Netflix Starts Testing A New Ultra Subscription Tier For $17 A Month

Netflix Starts Testing A New Ultra Subscription Tier For $17 A Month

If the blog is correct it looks like Netflix is going to offer an Ultra tier - for more money of course. People will no longer be able to write their feedback on a show, and in mid-August, people will no longer be able to read existing user reviews on Netflix either, CNET reported.

The company said in a statement given to USA TODAY: "We continuously test new things at Netflix and these tests typically vary in length of time. In this case, we are testing slightly different price points and features to better understand how consumers value Netflix". The new tier is basically the current Premium tier with HDR video and HD audio added.

The Ultra plan will cost $16.99 in the United States and will offer customers the ability to have four simultaneous 4K streams all at once.

So far, these plans are only being tested in Europe, but, according to how well these changes are received, could become more widespread among Netflix customers. In 2013, the company first introduced a four-screen option as a more expensive alternative to their existing two-screen plans.

U.S. jobs growth stronger than expected
Economists had forecast that employers added 195,000 payrolls last month, according to the median estimate compiled by Bloomberg. Revised figures for April and May bring the monthly average for this year to 214,000 jobs-up from 182,000 the year before.

Why? Netflix spokesperson Smita Saran told CNET, "This feature is only offered on the website and has seen declining usage over time".

Netflix is reportedly set to offer up a new subscription that would fall under "Ultra" branding, a new plan that is above the Base, Standard, and Premium susbcriptions.

Wall Street analysts have said that Netflix has enough pull for testing out these higher prices. Two years ago, Netflix saw a growth slowdown when it raised the Standard plan price by $2 for new members, while current subscribers got the increase over several months in 2016.

This is just a test, Netflix says, but one that could eventually lead to higher monthly bills for subscribers.
