George Clooney released from hospital after motorcycle crash in Italy

Local news sources report that George Clooney, actor-husband to Amal, was rushed to the hospital following a motorcycle accident in Italy.

An ambulance took Clooney to the nearest hospital, where an MRI scan revealed that the actor was not seriously injured, according to police and health officials.

The 57-year-old was hit by a vehicle while riding his scooter on the island of Sardinia, officials confirmed to NBC News.

The 57-year-old Academy Award victor was traveling on a state road in Costa Corallina, a province of Olbia, when the crash occurred, TGCOM24 reported.

Clooney has had a home on the Italian mainland, on Lake Como, for many years.

According to La Nuova Sardegna, a local news site, Clooney only suffered a knee injury.

The auto driver called an ambulance which took Clooney to hospital, AGI added.

Amal Clooney reportedly rushed to his side while he was at the hospital. His helmet, which broke during the crash, is said to have smashed the Mercedes' windshield. The two reportedly left together in a private auto after he was given the clear.

Clooney arrived in Sardinia to direct a TV miniseries called Catch 22, based on the novel by American author Joseph Heller set during World War II.
