Man harasses woman for wearing Puerto Rico shirt, saying it’s ‘un-American’

Authorities placed an IL park officer on desk duty Monday night after video surfaced of him standing idly by as a man harassed a woman wearing a shirt with the Puerto Rican flag.

A woman in the U.S. was subjected to harassment at the hands of a police officer for wearing a shirt with a Puerto Rican flag at the IL based, Forest Preserves of Cook County, CNN reported.

Later in the video, Irizarry is shown asking a Cook County Forest Preserve District police officer for help in getting the man away from her. On video, you can hear her saying, "I am renting this area and he's harassing me about the shirt that I'm wearing".

In the footage, the man-identified as 62-year-old Timothy Trybus-can be seen approaching Irizarry saying: "You should not be wearing that in the United States of America".

Irizarry said on Facebook that she had rented out a pavilion at the forest preserve for a birthday party when she and her family and friends were accosted by the unidentified man.

"You're not American, if you were American you wouldn't wear that". "Then you should not be wearing that". He gets closer to her and asks "Are you a citizen?"

"Why is she wearing that ****?" the man says. She tells the officer she is "highly uncomfortable", however, the officer appears to turn away and walk in the other direction. Not long after arriving, a middle-aged white man approached her and began to harass her about her shirt - a red, white and blue tank top designed like the Puerto Rican flag.

Caldwell Woods is part of the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Eilieen Figel said the investigation into the officer is "ongoing" but promised "disciplinary actions will be swift" when the probe is completed.

Later, more police arrive and Irizarry says she still doesn't feel safe.

India thus clinched their sixth consecutive T20I series win, which is part of an unbeaten run stretching back to September 2017. Jason Roy hit the bulk of them - the opener scored 67 of 31 deliveries striking seven shots for sixes.

Stagner and the Forest Preserves are not the only ones upset by the video, as Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rossello tweeted about the "undignified event", calling the man a bigot and finding fault with the first officer who "did not interfere".

A woman officer then stepped in, telling the intoxicated man that Irizarry has a permit and cautioning him that he could be arrested "for not being compliant".

"As you can see, the police are not even - he's not even grabbing him", Irizarry said.

Irizarry posted the 36-minute video to her Facebook page on June 14.

Connor has been disciplined in the past for working a part-time job, and not carrying proper identification, according to Pope, who said his department opened an investigation into Connor's response the day of the incident, and that Connor was placed on desk duty June 24. "People have just as much right to be here as you and when you're drunk, you don't belong here".

The United States acquired Puerto Rico as a territory in 1899.

"This is not the America we all believe in", he tweeted. We are proud U.S. citizens.

Irizzary was wearing a shirt made to look like the Puerto Rico flag, with the words "Puerto Rico" written on the top.
