Emmett Till Case: Authorities Reopen Investigation Into Teen's 1955 Killing

One year after the publication of Timothy B. Tyson's The Blood of Emmett Till, the federal investigation into the murder of the 14-year-old black child at the hands of two white men has been reopened.

A federal report sent annually to lawmakers under a law that bears Till's name said the Justice Department is reinvestigating Till's slaying in MS after receiving "new information". Although a jury did not even hear Carolyn's words, the court spectators put her words on the record, which led to the jury acquitting the murderers of the 14-year-old boy.

The case wasclosed in 2007, but the DOJ informed Congress in a report earlier this year that they were re-opening it "after receiving new information", according to the Washington Post.

Emmett Till's case is being reactivated after a 2017 book came out with quotes from Carolyn Bryant, a white woman. Two white men - Donham's then-husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother, J.W. Milam - were charged with murder but acquitted in the slaying of Till, who had been staying with relatives in northern MS at the time. Two men who confessed to killing Emmett, only after they had been acquitted by an all-white jury in MS, are dead.

District Attorney Dewayne Richardson declined comment Thursday on any role he might have in the case. His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, insisted on an open casket because she wanted the world to witness exactly what the attackers had done to her son. In an interview with NBC, Deborah Watts, a cousin of Till and the co-founder of the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, said "None of us wants to do anything that jeopardizes any investigation or impedes, but we are also very interested in justice being done".

Donham, who turns 84 this month, now lives in North Carolina, AP reported. But it was issued in March following the publication a year ago of "The Blood of Emmett Till".

Unai Emery says Jack Wilshere Arsenal decision was 'tactical and technical'
He said: "We signed the players who we needed and only if one player is a big opportunity for us will we sign them". Emery says the team is done doing transfer business now, but obviously a can happen between now and deadline day.

Parker says the Justice Department hasn't told Till's family anything about the reopened investigation.

The Duke University scholar says he shared materials including recordings of 2008 interviews with a white woman, Carolyn Donham, acknowledging that she wasn't truthful when she testified that Till made sexual advances at a MS store in 1955. An all-white jury acquitted the men who were accused of murdering Till.

The Justice Department declined to comment Thursday, but it appeared that the government had chosen to devote new attention to the case after Donham, in an interview with Tyson, recanted parts of her account of what transpired in August 1955. And she said, to be perfectly honest, I don't remember. She resisted and pulled away, but Till approached her and got her by the waist, she said.

"We don't know anything".

The evidence, which was heard after jurors had been sent out, was ruled inadmissible by the judge.
