Belgium-based company Greenyard Frozen Belgium NV has recalled the frozen vegetables - which include frozen corn, carrot, broccoli and mixed vegetable bags - from Woolworths, IGA and ALDI stores. Woolworths said it regards food safety as "of critical importance".

The nine products that have been recalled over listeria concerns.

Frozen Savoury Rice Mix was removed as part of the worldwide recall by the Hungarian Food Safety Agency as a precaution, Woolworths said in a statement on Monday.

"Anyone who has purchased this product can return it to any of our stores for a full refund", the spokeswoman said.

Listeriosis is a bacterial disease caused by listeria. The fruit and vegetable giant tells FoodIngredientsFirst that production has stopped at its Hungarian vegetable plant while an in-depth investigation takes place into the potential listeria contamination.

More than 190 people died following a major listeriosis outbreak in the country since the outbreak late past year.

According to media reports, the US military sent wooden cases to which the remains of soldiers will be transferred at the border. Between 1996 and 2005, some 33 recovery operations were conducted in North Korea which saw 200 sets of remains returned.

Listeriosis is seen as a serious illness and is caused by the Listeria bacteria, with infection usually caused by eating contaminated foods.

The general, symptoms include headache, fever, tiredness and aches and pains, as well as diarrhoea, nausea and abdominal cramps.

She said: "The best way to prevent listeriosis is to practise good food hygiene. Thorough cooking would ensure that the product is safe".

All of the affected supermarket products have been made by Greenyard Frozen UK even though many of them are sold as supermarket own brand products. To verify the safety of our food products, we implement additional monitoring where we independently have our food products tested randomly.

"While many people will follow cooking instructions properly, which should kill listeria bacteria, we are aware that some people eat frozen vegetables straight from the freezer and there is a risk of some people not cooking produce properly".
