Duncan Castles: Man United could rekindle interest in 29-year-old

Manchester United are set to wrap-up a £60m deal to sign Toby Alderweireld after finding a breakthrough in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Mirror.

It is added that the club are now expecting a £60m deal to go through for the Belgium global. However, with Tottenham demanding as much as £75 million for his services, the 20-time English champions were dissuaded from making a move for the Belgian.

United have also been linked to Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina, but Alderweireld's Premier League appears to have made him a priority for Jose Mourinho.

Nevertheless, it seems Everton will capitalise on the opportunity to recruit Mina, with Sport claiming that the defender will put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Goodison Park.

However, Goal understands United have pulled the plug on a move for Mina, focussing their attentions on landing Alderweireld instead.

It's a rarity in combat sports, in that its mainstream, entertainment appeal is completely matched by its competitive legitimacy. McGregor lost via 10th round TKO, but is believed to have walked out $100 million richer.

United face Leicester City in the season's opener next Friday.

Injuries and distractions due to the contract situation meant the former Southampton man went through a rough patch and lost his place to new signing Davinson Sanchez in Mauricio Pochettino's starting XI.

There is a belief among United staff though that a bid for the 25-year old should have gone in before his impressive World Cup campaign with England.

With the two Premier League clubs having rescinded their offers, it now leaves Mina with no suitors at the current time.

The transfer window approaches its final days and a number of interesting rumors have been circulating as major clubs prepare for the 2018-2019 season.
