Germany jails couple for pimping young son online

The boy is now 10 years old, according to German media, and there are huge questions about why authorities failed to intervene earlier, particularly because the mother's partner had a previous child sex abuse conviction.

The judge, Stefan Bürgelin, said the child's mother started abusing her child after her partner, Christian L, threatened to leave her.

The 48-year-old woman and 39-year-old man were accused of repeatedly abusing and raping the boy, now 10, filming the abuse, and selling him to other men on the "dark net", an area of the internet that can be visited only by using special software.

The Freiburg court jailed Berrin Taha for 12 years and six months, while her partner, Christian Lais, who was the boy's stepfather, received 12 years, the BBC reported.

The couple was also ordered to pay 42,500 euros ($49,200) in damages to the boy and another victim, a girl. It ruled that the man must remain in preventive custody after serving his sentence.

Police arrested the couple a year ago after being tipped off by an anonymous person.

MoviePass to Cover Only Three Movies Per Month
The once-red-hot ticketing service will now limit customers to seeing three movies a month, according to a company press release . Last week, MoviePass announced subscribers would be limited to certain blockbuster film within the first two weeks of release.

A Swiss citizen and three German men who also abused the boy, now aged 10, were jailed between eight to ten years.

They charged several thousand euros for each instance of abuse, filmed the acts and posted them on the darknet.

Six other man were also given sentences for sexually abusing the young boy.

Katja Ravat, the child's lawyer, said the mother had not shown remorse at any point during trial, adding that she "had hoped that [the defendant] would make a statement, issue a written apology to her child, or at least explains to him why she did it".

Freiburg police chief Peter Egetemaier said that the investigation into the couple had led them to around 20 other people who are now under investigation for child sexual abuse based on confiscated images and video footage. A local court, however, returned him to the family weeks later.
