Georgia Hall wins Women's British Open for first career major title

Thailand's Pornanong Phatlum recorded her first bogey of the championship on Saturday and ended the third round as she started it with a one-stroke lead at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

She began the final round three-strokes back of leader Pornanong Phatlum.

She said: "I saw so many little girls come out, three or four-year-olds just wanting a picture with me".

Hall, whose first name is in honour of the American state that hosts the Masters at Augusta, had only won twice previously since turning professional in 2014, as a rookie on the Ladies European Tour Access Series and at the 2016 Victorian Open in Australia.

Hall was able to enjoy the walk down the 18th - by then she had a three-shot lead and she played for a safe bogey.

The 22-year-old is the first British golfer to win a women's major since Scotland's Catriona Matthew won this event in 2009, and England's first since Karen Stupples did likewise five years earlier.

She became the first English player of either sex to win a major at Royal Lytham since Tony Jacklin won the 1969 British Open.

She is just the second English victor of the Women's British Open - after Karen Stupples in 2004 - since it became a major in 2001, and she becomes the first player to win the British Girls, British Ladies Amateur and British Women's Open.

Initially, the Space X and Boeing flights will be "test flights" and flights of crew and cargo to the International Space Station. If successful, the crewed flight tests will follow hopefully leading to NASA certifications for crew rotation missions.

It was a 5-under 67 for Hall, who finished the week at 17 under. I was loving it deep down, hitting the shots under pressure. "I'm not allowed to show any emotion because if I show I'm happy that's not right", dad Wayne said. The Thai finished runner up for the fifth time in her career, which is also her career best in a major championship.

"I was so confident coming into this event after previous year". "I just loved every minute".

"It was great to get so much support, I haven't really had that before because I play in America quite a bit", Hall said.

A week before defending his PGA Championship title, Justin Thomas on Sunday demonstrated that his game is in excellent shape as he blew away the field for a four-stroke victory at the World Golf Championships (WGC) Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Her previous best had been in a tie for 3rd in 2015.

Dustin Johnson, the world's No. 1 player who was coming off a victory in the Canadian Open last week, started the final round 10 shots behind and shot 29 on the front nine.

"I'm glad I finally played well around here, just in time for it to leave", Thomas said.

A birdie at No. 10 put him three shots behind, but Johnson bogeyed the last hole for a 64 and shared third with Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark.

Also the 2014 and 2015 victor at TPC Twin Cities, the 57-year-old Perry matched Hale Irwin's tournament record of three victories in the final edition of the event that started in 1993 at Bunker Hills.
