'Superman' star Margot Kidder died from 'self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose'

Now, the Associated Press reports that a statement released Wednesday by Park County coroner Richard Wood reveals that Kidder "died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose".

When Margot Kidder passed away at the age of 69 in mid-May, her cause of death wasn't immediately known.

A joint statement from the coroner's office and her family urged "those suffering from mental illnesses, addiction and/or suicidal thoughts to seek appropriate counselling and treatment".

"It's a big relief that the truth is out there", Kidder's daughter Maggie McGuane told the outlet.

Kidder dealt with mental illness for much of her life, while a 1990 vehicle accident left her in debt and needing a wheelchair for nearly two years.

Another Indonesian government agency has put the figure at 381, a significant increase from figure of 131 reported on Wednesday. The Red Cross said it was focusing relief efforts on an estimated 20,000 people yet to get any assistance.

Now, nearly three months after Kidder's body was found by a friend in her Livingston, Montana home, a coroner there has ruled her death a suicide.

Joan Kesich, a longtime friend who found Kidder's body, said she had been fearless and always spoke the truth, regardless of the consequences. The world mourned the loss of chef, celebrity chef, Anthony Bourdain and fashion designer, Kate Spade this past summer as well.

In what may have been her final interview before her death, Kidder told WWJ's Sandra McNeill on May 9 she was "sad but not that sad" when her "Superman" co-star Christopher Reeve became a quadriplegic. I want what I know about her to be out there because it was glorious.

Kidder, like Carrie Fisher, was an advocate for ending the social shame surrounding mental health issues.

"It's a very unique sort of grief and pain". She also noted Montana's high suicide rate and the empathy she feels for the people there going through the same thing. Her most recent role was in 2017 with the indie The Neighborhood.
