Google unveils redesigned Wear OS

At I/O 2018, Google took the wraps off of Wear OS, the Mountain View company's fresh attempt to make smartwatches make sense again.

With the world being so connected now and more information flying at us than ever, Google has revamped the notification system as well.

Dennis Troper, director of product management at Google for Wear OS, walked through the UI changes in a blog post today, which includes now being able to swipe right from the main watchface to bring up a helpful Google Assistant feed. Apparently this tool will get even more useful over time as Google Assistant gets to know you better and new features are added.

The eye of the hurricane is located about 940 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. Some slight strengthening is possible during the next day or so, and Miriam could become a hurricane by Thursday.

The new version received a modified notification bar, improved health monitoring and quick access to key parameters for smart watches. The app is designed with the intention of making the idea of staying healthy easier. For those unaware, Google Fit recently got two new activities including Heart Points and Move Minutes. We'll begin rolling out these new features over the next month, so look out for updates on your Wear OS by Google smartwatch. WearOS also gets support for Smart Replies, allowing you to reply to messages instantaneously. You'll receive smart suggestions like the weather and the works as well. Between Google's smartwatch fleet and Samsung's new Galaxy Watch, Apple Watch might have some decent competition. Also, you can swipe down on your watch to get quicker access to all other features and shortcuts to various applications. This comes right after the Google Fit interface was changed to look more like Apple Watch's activity goals.

The notifications work nearly the same way as before, except Google made the display be more information-dense, meaning you will see them on one single pane you can scroll through instead of them filling your screen one by one.

In fact, it seems Wear OS' interface has been thoroughly streamlined to help cut down on the number of extra taps and swipes needed to access your smartwatch's most important apps and features.
