Burt Reynolds Dead: Veteran Actor Dies At 82

He reportedly died of a heart attack in Florida.

US Weekly said Reynolds went into cardiac arrest at the hospital.

Legendary actor Burt Reynolds, who starred in "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Deliverance" and who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in "Boogie Nights", has died in Florida.

In 1998, Reynolds received his first Academy Award nod, for a supporting role in Boogie Nights that also earned him a Golden Globe.

Reynolds attended Florida State University on a football scholarship, and eventually set out for New York City to pursue a career in acting. The film was later remade with Adam Sandler taking the ball as Paul "Wrecking" Crewe, while Reynolds played Coach Nate Scarborough.

The actor had heart bypass surgery in 2010 and is survived by his son, Quinton.

Questioning of the nominee will begin on Wednesday, and votes in committee and on the Senate floor could occur later in September. Grassley denied his request, but the arguments persisted. "This is a mockery and a travesty of justice", shouted one woman.

Reynolds was Hollywood's former No. 1 box-office draw, who spent five years (1978 to 1982) attracting the world's most audiences to the movie theaters, a feat unmatched since. The same year Woody Allen cast him in a small comedic role in his film "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex".

But he also turned down some of the biggest roles in Hollywood history.

Despite his popularity, Reynolds would one day come to regret some of his career choices. "I took the part that was the most fun - 'Oh, this will be fun.' I didn't take the part that would be the most challenging", told television interviewer Piers Morgan in 2012.

His breakthrough film role was in Deliverance (1972), in which he played Lewis Medlock.

Reynolds was also well known for his personal dramas off the screen, his high-profile lost love with his "Smokey" co-star Sally Field and a messy divorce from actress Loni Anderson, a string of box office clunkers followed by well-chronicled financial problems.
