Twitter permanently bans Alex Jones and Infowars show for 'abusive behaviour'

Twitter said on Thursday it had "permanently suspended" conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his website, Infowars, for sharing a series of tweets and videos, including verbal attacks on a reporter that Jones live-streamed outside of a congressional hearing the day before. Previous violations also contributed to the decision to ban both accounts.

The social media site said Jones posted tweets and videos on Wednesday that violated its policies on abusive behavior.

A post on the Twitter Safety account said the company took the action as a response to content posted yesterday after the much publicized senate hearing involving Facebook and Twitter.

The video in question showed Jones shouting at and berating Oliver Darcy, a CNN journalist, for some 10 minutes in between two congressional hearings focused on social media.

Twitter says Jones won't be able to create new accounts on Twitter or take over any existing ones. That came after users flagged a video that Jones posted to Twitter in which he encouraged his supporters to ready their weapons against the media and other groups. Of course, this also comes after Jones crashed Dorsey's visit to Congress, accusing him and other tech leaders of being biased against conservatives. Facebook followed up by suspending Jones for 30 days, while YouTube terminated his account after it found Jones violated the company's Community Guidelines.

The incredible Roger Federer shot that left Nick Kyrgios stunned
You know, if anyone else is doing those shots against me, I'm probably not too happy. "But it's Roger", he said . "It was tough. In the 18-minute shutout of the first set, Kanepi was tight and Williams was pretty much flawless , grabbing 24 of 30 points.

Twitter initially took a more tepid stance on taking action against Jones. At the time, CEO Jack Dorsey said that Jones hadn't violated Twitter's policies but that the company would continue to monitor him and take action if he did so.

Before being banned, Jones's Twitter page had accumulated almost 900,000 followers, while the Infowars page had accrued around 430,000.

There is no reliable evidence to support Jones' charge. Some of the parents of the victims have sued Jones for mental and emotional distress.

Among other claims, he has called the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting a hoax. He has sought to have the lawsuit dismissed.

While running for president in 2015, Donald Trump told Jones his reputation was 'amazing'.
