She's Australia's sweetheart, and has already beaten cancer twice, but last night Olivia Newton-John revealed she's been diagnosed with the disease for a third time.

The performer, 69, revealed on Sunday that she's treating a tumour in her lower back, during an interview with Australian news program Sunday Night. She's cut sugar out of her diet entirely, and is also taking cannabis oil for her pain.

Seeking treatment from a clinic in the United States, Newton-John says that the oestrogen-blocking medicine she was prescribed caused depression.

"I believe I will win over it", she said.

"Cancer is something I will need to say on top of for the rest of my long life".

Newton-John said that her husband John Easterling had been growing the plant, something she said he could do legally in California, where the couple live.

It was an incredibly emotional time for the Xanadu singer, whose older sister Rona died from brain cancer months later.

In California, it's legal to grow a certain amount of plants for your own medicinal purposes. "I'm still treating it and I'm treating it naturally", she said on Sunday.

So he makes me tinctures. "There are moments. I'm human, so if I allow myself to go there, I could easily create that big fear". "A lot of people see it as a fight, and [however] you choose to see it, that's your prerogative".

In 2013, Newton-John was diagnosed with cancer in her shoulder after a vehicle accident, which she kept a secret. "And I'm doing really well". As a result, she turned to her husband's Amazon Herb Company as well as the oncology team at her Melbourne Cancer and Wellness Centre throughout 2012. "It's hard to say - they help with pain", Newton-John noted. "It's my life. I chose to just keep it to myself", she told "Sunday Night".

"I live in a lovely place, have a wonderful husband, all these animals I adore, I have an incredible career - I have nothing really to complain about". I have an incredible career. And, um, I'm a very privileged person, and I'm very aware of that.
