Woman agrees to testify against US Supreme Court nominee

A Republican voter on a CNN panel this week questioned the sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, saying "what boy hasn't done this in high school?" Now an appeals court judge, Kavanaugh denies the allegations.

The Committee had delayed a vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation after California professor Christine Blasey Ford's allegations emerged last week, and her lawyers and committee staff were negotiating the conditions of her testimony.

Christine Blasey Ford's attorneys issued a statement Sunday after achieving what they described as "important progress on our call this morning with Senate Judiciary Committee staff members".

According to Trump, the fact that Ford remained silent until now shows the incident probably never happened - even if this runs counter to what experts say is the typical reaction of sexual assault victims afraid or too embarrassed to report.

Grassley and Senate Republican leaders were gearing up to muscle Kavanaugh's confirmation through without hearing from the accuser, until her lawyers on Thursday began negotiations for the hearing.

"I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr Ford was as bad as she says", Trump wrote, "charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents". Moderate female voters will be pivotal in many races in the elections and the #MeToo movement has elevated the political potency of how women alleging abuse are treated. Kavanaugh also is set to appear at the hearing.

Since Wilson's passport was canceled, he was no longer legally in the country and was placed into custody. The agent involved in Wilson's rental notified police of his whereabouts after seeing him on the news.

Terms of their appearances, such as who will be asking the questions, are still being negotiated, but several other details have been resolved. Kavanaugh and his wife also had received threats, a senior White House official said.

Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a house party in the 1980s, when they were both teenagers at Washington-area private schools.

Senator Susan Collins, a moderate Republican and potentially a key vote on Kavanaugh's nomination, said at an event in Portland, Maine, that she was "appalled" by Trump's tweet.

Ventry, a press adviser on the committee chaired by Grassley, denied any past "allegations of misconduct" according to NBC News. He told the Washington Post he resigned "in order to not be a distraction" as Republicans in the senate continue to work on getting Kavanaugh confirmed.

"It's also unremarkable that Ms. Keyser does not remember attending a specific gathering 30 years ago at which nothing of effect happened to her. Dr. Ford of course will never forget this gathering because of what happened to her there".

Ms Ford's lawyers previously said she had "been the target of vicious harassment" in the wake of her claims and was forced to leave her home.
