Cruz, O'Rourke face off in first debate

O'Rourke recorded 0.136 and 0.134 blood alcohol levels on Breathalyzer tests, the records said. "I think vast majority of Texans agree on that", Cruz said.

Robert Francis O'Rourke is running against Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. "As you noted, we disagree on the outcome, but you're fighting for the principles you believe in and I respect that". The state "needs a senator who will work with the president where we can and stand up to him where we must", O'Rourke said. "There is nothing I would like more than to be pleasantly surprised by an increase in voter turnout, but I think.it's going to be a ripple rather than a wave".

O'Rourke deadpanned: "True to form". Polls over the previous year have shown O'Rourke growing closer and closer to Cruz, and at least one poll - an Ipsos online poll of likely voters - put O'Rourke ahead by two points this week.

As for Cruz, his campaign continues to worry about competing with O'Rourke financially and whether Republican voters will turn out in numbers to ensure his victory.

Texas hasn't had a Democratic senator since Lloyd Bentsen in 1994, but O'Rourke has amassed a large campaign war chest and made a point of visiting all 254 Texas counties, including many that Democrats wrote off years ago.

Texas Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke denied at a Friday debate attempting to flee the scene after he crashed his vehicle in 1998 and was eventually arrested for driving while intoxicated.

In what has become a down-to-the-wire race for the US senate seat - a position that has been held by a Republican since 1993 - Friday's debate saw Cruz and O'Rourke clash in person for the first time.

Patriots Nearly Traded Rob Gronkowski to Lions Before He Threatened to Retire
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Sunday that the teams were "deep" in trade talks, which peaked the week of the NFL Draft. Ultimately, he chose to return to the Patriots, who later restructured his contract in an act of good will.

O'Rourke chided Cruz for supporting legislation that would have allocated billions of dollars to build a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border, and called for an earned path to citizenship. Cruz pounced in his response, bringing up O'Rourke's support for impeaching Trump.

O'Rourke made an ambiguous claim in an August viral video about National Football League players' protests of police brutality. National attention in the race has grown as O'Rourke raises more money and polls suggest a surprisingly competitive race.

"If you drill down and look at the data for unarmed black children killed by police, there is virtually no support for the idea that this happens at a frightening level", the Post found.

"Nobody should be in their own home and shot and killed in their own home", Cruz said. "When he speaks, people take that to heart", Murphree said, calling O'Rourke's remarks "insulting to me as a citizen of this state and as a police officer". He said the incident led him to fight to eliminate racial biases from the criminal justice system and help those who have served their time get jobs.

Cruz, a onetime Ivy League debate champion, finished second in the 2016 Republican presidential primary. But after losing, he said, he decided not to be "selfish, to make it about myself", and instead try to "do something extraordinary" with Trump.

"While I may like one of them personality-wise better than the other", said Lionberger.
