Amy Schumer Agrees to Be Arrested at Kavanaugh Protest

A representative from the United States Capitol Police, which provided security for the protest, did not return Yahoo Lifestyle's request for comment.

The protest had begun at 12.30pm (1630 GMT) outside the nearby E Barrett Prettyman Courthouse where Kavanaugh is a federal appeals judge.

The vast majority of the arrests - 293 - took place on the Hart atrium floor. Schumer and Ratajkowski are among the 300 to 400 people who were arrested at the Senate building. 37-year-old comedian Amy Schumer and a 27-year-old model Emily Ratajkowski, were among 293 individuals that were briefly detained by the authorities for civil disobedience. Show up! We will keep fighting.

The impassioned fight over Kavanaugh's nomination has led to heightened security at the Capitol, with some senators using police escorts to shield them from protesters. (Ratajkowski wrote on Twitter that she was arrested.) A photo of the two of them being detained and sharing a bag 'o snacks surfaced on Twitter soon after.

Amy, whose second cousin is Senator Chuck Schumer, has been an outspoken advocate for progressive issues, specifically gun safety.

"She loves you very much".

A video of Schumer, tweeted by journalist Benny Johnson, showed her answering "Yes" when a police officer asked whether she wanted to be arrested.

Women and their allies came to Washington, DC, on Thursday to protest Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the nation's highest court.

"A vote for Kavanaugh is a vote saying women don't matter", Schumer told the crowd gathered outside the Supreme Court.

The first woman to wave her anonymity and speak out about the case was Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University.

Kavanaugh has denied all accusations, though it has caused controversy with hundreds of women, and men, angry about his nomination.
