FEMA Tests New Presidential Emergency Alert System On Cellphones

There is strong concern over the need of a Wireless Emergency Alert System controlled by President Trump because of his past erratic behavior on the social media platform Twitter, especially since the FEMA Emergency Alert System is already in place.

Since 2012 government agencies nationwide have issued over 40,000 emergency alerts to cell phones, but those were "Amber" and weather alerts targeting specific regions. More than 100 wireless providers carry WEA messages, and ones like Wednesday's feature a header that reads "Presidential Alert". This is being sent by FEMA, in coordination with the FCC, the Emergency Alert System, and Wireless Emergency Alert. "No action is needed", the full text will read.

Except to the extent necessary for testing the public alert and warning system, the public alert and warning system shall not be used to transmit a message that does not relate to a natural disaster, act of terrorism, or other man-made disaster or threat to public safety.

EAS was described by FEMA as a national public warning system that provides the President with the communications capability to address the nation during a national emergency.

It's the same kind of message that warns people of critical situations, including risky weather, but the test was put on hold due to a real emergency last month. You also have to be within range of an active cell tower to receive the alert.

It was meant to be tested on 20 September, but this was postponed because of Hurricane Florence.

Trump trusted less than Putin and Xi, says new global study
The countries with the most positive views of the USA were Israel, the Philippines and South Korea, all at 80 per cent or above. General Assembly, an annual meeting of the world's top leaders and diplomats, exemplified numerous results of the survey.

It was estimated by FEMA that at least 75 percent of targeted mobile devices - about 225 million cellphones in the United States - would successfully sound the alert within a 30-minute period - the test is being conducted, in part, to determine just how expansive its reach.

Comic Kathy Griffin, a longtime Trump critic, used her Twitter account to show a phony Presidential Alert reading: "FAILED COMIC KATHY GRIFFIN IS TRYING TO DESTROY A GREAT MAN, BRETT KAVANAUGH!" The TV and radio alert has been tested for several years. If a phone is off, or on a call at the time of the alert, the message many not come through. This new presidential alert is nationwide and only used for advance warning of national crises.

"How he uses technology like not very responsibly".

An mobile phone screenshot of the Emergency Alert send by FEMA to all U.S. mobile user to test the National Wireless Emergency Alert System, Oct. 3, 2018. If this had been an actual emergency an official message would have followed the tone alert you heard at the start of this message. "No action is required".

"Everything is secured, password-protected and then authenticated or checked by two people before that message is sent", the official said. Expect the same double beep and vibration as you would receiving the other alerts.
