President Trump Speaks to Police Chiefs in Florida

President Donald Trump said Monday he has no plans to fire Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who has been facing an uncertain fate for more than two weeks.

The Chicago Sun-Times has learned the Justice Department will have announcements on Chicago later this week. "So it works. Got to be properly applied but stop and frisk works", he continued. He blamed the ACLU for tying the hands of police in the city, and said that "Stop and Frisk" works and should be considered there.

A report a year ago by former U.S. Magistrate Judge Arlander Keys to assess how Chicago was compiling with the agreement on stop-and-frisk noted a dramatic decrease in the number of stops since the ACLU lawsuit, but found that officers were still targeting racial minorities.

The Justice Department has denied that Rosenstein had proposed invoking the 25th Amendment of the Constitution and issued a statement that said the remark about recording the president was meant sarcastically. "We're going to straighten it out, and we're going to straighten it out fast", he promised. There is no reason for what's going on there.

The senior Justice Department official joined Trump on the executive jet on the way to Orlando, where the president is addressing law enforcement officials.

Trump said he had ordered Attorney General Jeff Sessions to "immediately" go to Chicago "to help straighten out the bad shooting wave". "You need to bring back stop and frisk".

Last March, retired federal Magistrate Arlander Keys, overseeing the agreement, said in a report that the Chicago Police Department has "come a long way" to alleviate the concerns of civil rights activists about officers stopping minorities for questioning. Opponents say black people and members of other minority ethnic groups are unfairly targeted by the stops.

Missing journalist reportedly killed in 'barbaric way' at Saudi consulate
The private Turkish broadcaster, NTV, reported on Monday that police had requested access to the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul . Trump and his administration have not commented on the fate of Khashoggi, whom Saudi Arabia insists left the Saudi consulate.

Rosenstein assumed supervision of the investigation after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself because of his own contacts with Russia's ambassador to Washington while serving as a Trump campaign adviser became public.

During his speech, the president said the duo "had a good talk" on the plane.

Trump was also asked about musician Taylor Swift, who expressed her desire over the weekend to vote for Democrat Phil Bredesen over Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., in Tennessee's Senate race.

"For too many years we have watched politicians escalate political attacks on our courageous police officers, and I've never seen it more than over the last few years", he said. "The press wants to know, 'What did you talk about?' But we had a very good talk, I will say".
