Timberwolves trade of Jimmy Butler to Heat falls apart

The four-time All-Star and elite National Basketball Association defensive player has been linked to the Miami Heat for the last few weeks, but reports suggest that a deal that was in place fell apart.

At first blush it might seem like the Heat could afford to hold off and not bite on Butler right now. Minnesota shared Butler's medical info with Miami, owners were involved and sides prepared to finalize.

The rumor mill this week has been in full effect over the trade status of Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Jimmy Butler. The Timberwolves reportedly asked for more, and that's what caused the Heat to back out of the deal.

Miami have emerged as the strong favourites to take him in a trade and Wojnarowsi reports they have been locked in talks all week.

Bulgarian man charged with murder of TV journalist Viktoria Marinova
Marinova is the third journalist to have died in the European Union over the past year, and the fourth since the start of 2017. Mladen Marinov, Bulgaria's interior minister, described the murder as "exceptionally brutal", according to local news outlets.

Talks could pick up again in the future. Minnesota, however, is in no hurry to trade Butler, perhaps leaving the door open for other teams to make a better offer. As Wojnarowski notes, Minnesota's owner, Glen Taylor has a standing mandate to management to find a deal for Butler. Adding to the dry market is the fact that Butler, 29, is slated to be a free agent next summer and will likely command a long-term max contract.

"Miami had softened on including guard Josh Richardson in versions of a possible deal for Butler, only to recoil once Minnesota pushed late for a sweeter return on the four-time All-Star forward, league sources said". The report also said the Rockets have been aggressive in trying to acquire Butler while Yahoo reported the Clippers have interest in trading for Butler.

He has listed the LA Clippers, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks as teams he would like to re-sign with.
