Washington Post publishes possible last photo of missing Saudi journalist

After leaving the consulate grounds, three cars turned left on to a main road while the remaining three turned right. Erdogan has said he would await the results of an investigation.

'Trying to stay calm, I immediately called Yasin Aktay, an adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and one of Jamal's oldest friends. "It is going to put further stress on the relationship, particularly in terms of congressional views on Saudi Arabia", said Mr Gerald Feierstein, a veteran U.S. diplomat in the Middle East who served as ambassador to Yemen. Details of the convoy were disclosed by the pro-government Daily Sabah newspaper.

"What was explained to us is this: "He was killed, make your funeral preparations", Kislakci said.

Erdogan, who said he's personally following the case, added that Turkey had no documents or evidence regarding the case.

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday invited Turkish experts and relevant officials to visit its Istanbul Consulate to look into last week's disappearance of a Saudi journalist.

It was Khashoggi's second visit to finalise his divorce, after being told the previous Friday that his papers were not in order.

Meanwhile, Turkish authorities are scouring motorway camera footage in the hopes of finding a black van they suspect carried Khashoggi's body out of the consulate.

Flight data collected by AirNavRadarBox, a firm that tracks private and commercial planes all over the world, showed that the first of the two planes left Riyadh late October 1 and touched down in Istanbul the following day at 3:15am.

Bulgarian man charged with murder of TV journalist Viktoria Marinova
Marinova is the third journalist to have died in the European Union over the past year, and the fourth since the start of 2017. Mladen Marinov, Bulgaria's interior minister, described the murder as "exceptionally brutal", according to local news outlets.

His disappearance is likely to further deepen divisions between Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

'I also urge Saudi Arabia, especially King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to show the same level of sensitivity and release CCTV footage from the consulate. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted Sunday that if "deeply disturbing" reports of Khashoggi's murder were confirmed, "The United States and the civilized world must respond strongly, and I will review all options in Senate". Khashoggi was driven from there to Riyadh, and was held there, the source said.

Khashoggi, 59, went missing last Tuesday while visiting the consulate for paperwork to marry his Turkish fiancée. The disappearance has shocked many in Turkey and caused alarm in some quarters of Riyadh.

"These are extremely serious allegations", said a British Foreign Office representative in a statement.

Protesters gathered outside the Saudi consulate Monday demanding to know what had happened to Khashoggi.

Now a source close to the Saudi royals has told DailyMail.com that an alternative version of events is being discussed inside high levels of the Saudi government.

The issue threatens to strain the close relationship Prince Mohammed has forged with the Trump administration, which until now has been willing to turn a blind eye to alleged Saudi human rights violations in Yemen, where it leads a coalition bombing Houthi rebels that has killed thousands of civilians.

France said it was seeking an explanation as to how an "accomplished and esteemed" journalist had vanished.

Jeremy Hunt has warned Saudi Arabia that "friendships depend on shared values" after questioning the country's ambassador over the disappearance of a journalist. The planes are owned by Riyadh-based Sky Prime Aviation Services, according to public records.
