McConnell ‘proud’ pro-abortion Murkowski is in GOP, dismisses primary challenge

He won confirmation Saturday on a 50-48 vote, surmounting near-total opposition from Democrats, who complained about his 12 years as a judge and cited uncorroborated allegations of sexual assault from Justice Kavanaugh's high school days.

During his confirmation hearings, Kavanaugh refused to be pinned down on whether he would recuse himself in cases involving Trump such as Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into potential collusion between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation. Fifty percent of those surveyed said Republicans would retain the majority, compared to 34 percent who said Democrats would take over.

"This business of presidential harassment may or may not quite be the victor they think it is", McConnell told the Associated Press.

"She's certainly going to recover", McConnell said. Voters who did not register in time for the November 6 election can still vote in the runoff if they register 30 days prior.

Questioned if the Senate leader should play a bigger role pushing back against Trump's more combative rhetoric on minorities and other groups at a time of steep polarization, McConnell dismissed the need for such interventions.

As Trump, the other eight court justices and a number of Republican senators crucial to the confirmation process watched, retired Justice Anthony Kennedy administered the judicial oath to Kavanaugh.

He's expecting a "relatively lively" lame duck session after the election and did not shy away from a possible federal government shutdown over funding for Trump's border wall.

The Republicans, who control Congress but struggle to get much done, are famed for their promotion of "messaging" bills that don't change anything.

After the Senate's vote to confirm the controversial nominee, Democratic voters have grown more enthusiastic about midterm voting than Republicans, a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found. She said they "do not pertain to any conduct in which Judge Kavanaugh engaged as a Judge". Republican senators admit it.

In recent weeks and months, some Democrats have promised to use any congressional influence they have to investigate Trump, his businesses, his finances, and even his most recent Supreme Court appointee.

But according to a new survey from Rasmussen Reports, Republican voters are furious about the salacious, unfounded accusations lobbed at Kavanaugh and are more likely to vote in the upcoming midterm elections as a result.

The Kentucky Republican said he was speaking from experience.

Collins cited the lack of protections for those with pre-existing conditions in a statement explaining her vote.

Murkowski already had touched upon the divisive nature of the Kavanaugh issue, saying that, "And I hope, I hope and I pray that we don't find ourselves in this situation again". Kavanaugh repeatedly and unequivocally denied all of the sexual assault allegations leveled against him.
