Heavy and persistent rain is due to fall from 6am until midnight on Friday in the north west of England, south west of Scotland and Lothian Borders, Wales and Yorkshire and Humber.

THE Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for much of the United Kingdom this weekend as Storm Callum threatens to strike.

On Tuesday, heavy rain caused widespread floods and landslides in parts of Scotland.

"We are urging people to take the necessary precautions", Ms Lowe said.

Where flooding may occur there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
