Biz leaders fight Trump on Fed critique

Trump said the market plunge is "a correction that I think is caused by the Federal Reserve". Blame the Fed instead.

Avoiding an overheated economy will help to ensure that America does not experience a renewed bout of inflation and that it can try and achieve a soft landing.

Fed named Powell to lead the central bank but can only fire him for cause. Call it the Powell doctrine.

From its beginning, the Fed was created to insulate it from political pressures. "That's who we are, that's what we do, and that's just the way it's always going to be for us".

Last week's jump in yields followed strong United States data but many analysts have been anticipating dynamics in the bond market to change due to expectations that central banks in Europe and Japan will soon phase out bond-buying programmes. "Or basically any hyperinflationary basket case whose population doesn't believe that monetary policy is free of political influence". Investors have sold longer-term bonds accordingly. This implies they now see a greater possibility that growth and short-term interest rates could surprise by rising faster than forecasters now project.

Though Trump said he objected to the Fed's continual rate hikes, he said in response to a question that he would not seek to oust the chairman.

But to what level?

"We know the Fed is independent".

Inflation risks are mounting and the Federal Reserve's "glacial" normalization pace isn't adequate to cope with it, Yale University's Stephen Roach warned on Thursday. Act too quickly and it can quash the economy.

You see, rate hikes are a delicate phenomenon.

Trump Says Energized Republicans Must Vote to Ensure Unexpected Senate Wins
But Senate leader Mitch McConnell says that plan would backfire. "I think that people understand that there's a difference between the people talking on national news and the people they know in their neighborhood", he said.

Throughout the Fed's tightening cycle, which began at the end of 2015, financial conditions have been relatively easy. And where is the Federal Reserve mentioned in the Constitution?

The benchmark Nikkei 225, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong and the Shanghai Composite all plummeted more than three per cent in early morning trade, as investors fretted about surging interest rates and an ongoing trade war.

Trump has slapped tariffs on $250 billion in Chinese goods this year, and Beijing has retaliated with levies $110 billion of American products. The courts ruled decades ago in a case involving a member of the Federal Trade Commission that "for cause" meant more than a policy disagreement with the president.

Increased the deficit by 1 1/2% of GDP.

Similarly, every time the Fed raises rates, the cost of interest on our debt and the cost of running the USA government goes up dramatically thus reducing available money to spend on infrastructure and salaries of government employees.

"Later, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said the fundamentals and the future of the U.S. economy remain incredibly strong".

The CNBC report adds to the now-widespread view that the labor market is near or beyond full employment and shows wages are starting to accelerate higher. So, what it does, affects other large economies like Japan or Europe. Rates are going up. This is not 1998 or 1999, when rates went up to slow the internet boom during the Clinton administration where eventually we had the worst stock crash in recent history.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders issued a statement on the drop as well. Trump, who likes to pit his aides against each other, will have a chance to move back to Mnuchin's side. "There are no preconditions, the president will decide [whether to meet Xi]".

Trump's latest criticism of the Federal Reserve gave investors another headache.
