Federer does family proud to battle into Shanghai quarters

Roger Federer added his heft to the growing debate around the controversial new-format Davis Cup, saying on Thursday that "this was not designed for me".

Federer had to play catch-up in the tie break and said afterwards that he was relieved to avoid another three-setter.

"I wish I could tell you all these answers, but I really don't know".

Coric finished off Federer in style with the final two points an ace and a sizzling forehand crosscourt victor. "From that standpoint, I feel like I found a rhythm".

"It's important (to get back to No. 2) and I am grateful that I have this achievement". "I hope it's going to help me that I played against Medvedev and also Bautista Agut, two really good baseliners".

Federer, a two-time champion in Shanghai, will next face 13th-seeded Borna Coric. Coric continued his nice run making his second career Masters semifinal behind a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Matthew Ebden. I managed to pull through that one, and I haven't lost too many points on my serve.

"Last year was the first time I kind of broke through to the top 10 and was a top-five player".

Earlier, fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev secured a spot in next month's ATP Finals with a 6-4, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Kyle Edmund.

The South Korean government has been in talks with the U.S. government to get exemptions on Iran crude imports. Out of this, supplies in the first seven months, till October, have not been impacted.

Zverev has beaten Edmund all four times they've played.

A win on Sunday would deliver a fourth title for the season to Djokovic, beside Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

Zverev won his only encounter against Djokovic in the 2017 Rome final.

It was a terrific opening service game from Djokovic as Zverev seemed to have made the wrong decision to start the match returning. I think, quite similar in style of the play to today's match.

The first set went with serve, and some big serves at that, until Djokovic grabbed the break to go 4-2 up.

And the 21-year-old remained composed, losing just nine points on his serve in the match, to earn his second consecutive win over Federer.

"I did everything I meant to do on my end", the 31-year-old Serb, chasing his 32nd Masters title, said. "Obviously I don't want to stop here".
