MLB says Astros cheating allegations not major

MLB Chief Communications Officer Pat Courtney acknowledged Saturday night's incident in an email on Tuesday afternoon, saying, "We are aware of the matter and it will be handled internally". The Indians have filed a complaint with the Major League Baseball about the Astros over an incident of suspected cheating during Game 3 of the ALDS. The MLB has since closed its investigation into the matter, per Forbes.

However, a league source said Tuesday night that the investigation concluded the Astros employee was not trying to steal signs, but was acting on suspicions the Red Sox had been stealing Astros signs, and was there to try to catch them in the act. It was reported that the man "had a small camera and was texting frequently, but did not have a media credential". Two people familiar with the situation said the Astros tried to get a second person next to the dugout after the employee was removed by security. The man was allowed to remain in the stadium but was not allowed back into the media area. While that comes as welcome news to the team and its fans, Major League Baseball's decision didn't make everyone happy.

Meanwhile, Red Sox Manager Alex Cora says he's not losing sleep over the incident, and isn't linking it to the team's 7-2 loss to the Astros.

Sign-stealing has been an issue all series.

"So I mean we do a good job changing sequences and paying attention to details". "We try to slow it down".

When asked if he felt like anything was going on during the first two ALCS games at Fenway Park, Cora responded, "No, I don't". The Red Sox have taken the series lead against the Houston Astros.

The teams play again at 8:39 p.m. ET Wednesday in Game 4 in Houston.

The Houston Astros on Wednesday acknowledged a longstanding practice of having a team employee surveil the opposing team's dugout during road games, but said the objective was merely to ensure that they.

Security at Fenway Park had been warned about the man, because of his similarly suspicious behavior during the Astros' ALDS win over the Cleveland Indians.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Astros deployed McLaughlin to monitor whether the Red Sox were cheating on their side of the field. Correa has said subsequently that he began foraging in Houston's data because he was concerned the Astros - whose baseball operations department was run by former employees of the Cardinals - had illegally swiped proprietary information from the Cardinals.
