CIA Director Reportedly Hears Audio of ‘premeditated’ Khashoggi Killing

"We intend to consult with Congress and to work with other nations to hold accountable those responsible for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi", said Palladino.

The evidence of Turkish investigators "indicates that the suspects in the incident had committed their act with a premeditated intention", the Saudi government statement said.

Still, neither Trump nor Saudi Arabia has been willing to implicate Saudi leadership in the journalist's killing.

In the U.S., CIA Director Gina Haspel returned from a trip to Turkey and was expected to brief President Trump on Thursday morning about developments in the Khashoggi investigation.

It also came two days after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a speech calling Khashoggi's killing "brutal" and "planned" while demanding that the perpetrators be extradited to Turkey.

Saudi officials had earlier said an internal investigation suggested Khashoggi was killed in a botched operation to "negotiate" his return to the kingdom.

Calls to stop the event have been made following the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia's consulate in Turkey.

Khashoggi - a Washington Post contributor and critic of the crown prince - was killed after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. Speaking at an investment forum he was hosting in Riyadh, he called the killing a "heinous crime" and vowed to punish the culprits and overhaul the security services. Asked about the crown prince, though, Trump said, "Well, the prince is running things over there more so at this stage".

The kingdom had initially denied anything had happened to the prominent writer while in the consulate, but later admitted that he had died following an apparent "fistfight".
